Will the TV from US work in India?

Vinit S asked:

Hello,

I am purchasing a Sony HDTV from US to take it to India.
Will it work properly in India. It has tuner of this type NTSC/ATSC/QAM tuners

I heard the color system in India is NTSC and in US its PAL. Will this be a problem?

India uses different outlets than north america. I’m not sure if you can purchase a converter, but as far as I know, you can’t plug anything in over there that is made in US/Canada/Mexico. before purchasing a big ticket item like this, I would definately look into converters, if there are any. I’m not aware of any though, and no luck searching from google. I hope that helps you.

US uses NTSC, not PAL, but either way it shouldn’t matter when reffering to just the power source. Try and find a converter if you can. It doesn’t have to be for India if you can find out what socket type/voltage they use, maybe another countries converter will work for India just as well.

Bad idea. India uses the PAL system and also the current is 220.

If the TV has the ability to be switched from 110 to 220 and from NTSC to PAL then fine. I doubt if this is the case. Seldom products sold in the USA have this option.

You can buy the set in India for nearly the same money. Yes they have them there.
