Will my American HDTV work in London?

I am considering taking my sony plasma to London when I move there next month. I know the signals and power supplies are different but am curious whether the hdmi signal is standard so that I can use the hdmi output from a sky reciever (is there a hdmi output?) and bypass the NTSC – PAL, ATSC – DVB issues. Also, I know a step down transformer can be used to adjust the voltage, but will the 50hz frequency cause problems? Finally, how bad are the results if I use a NTSC – PAL converter?
