Argentina uses PAL, but a special version of it. Apparently it can carry the NTSC sub-carrier with it. I have never dealt with that type of a system so don't know the ins/outs of how it would impact your TV usage there.

In theory though, yes NTSC vs PAL does matter a lot when it comes to cable or satellite. In terms of frame size in standard definition NTSC is 720x525 (486 viewable), but PAL is 720x625 (576 viewable). And the signals are carried by different frequencies. NTSC is 60Hz and PAL is 50HZ. In terms of HD, the frame sizes become the same, but the frequencies are still different.

But again, I don't entirely get how the Argentinean version of PAL (PAL-N) works with the NTSC subcarrier it holds. It could well mean your TV will actually still work just fine there, but I can't say for sure unfortunately.

I am not sure about the quality of the TV, but I am certain about 2 things:

1) $599 is a great price for what you will be receiving.

2) Although I may not be very familiar with the Sceptre brand, I am very comfortable with the Costco brand, and the great return policy that comes with any purchase. If it turns out that the TV is junk, either have Costco.com pick it up, or return it to a Costco warehouse for a full refund.

For those two reasons above, I have purchased my HDTV.

Argentina is PAL for analog TV , but has not decided on the digital format.

Even if you have a set-top box, the format is still important.

A refurb vizio is not a good buy . A new vizio is a risk at any price. Hang in there the prices are coming down on good name brands.

They are cheap because they are junk. Youd just be buying junk for junk.

Save your money and buy a sony.

Vizio has a ton of problems with their units, and HD dosnt even appear HD! They have terrible HD picture. Same with Samsung.

The Sceptre brand gets mixed user reviews.
Like most things, you usually get what you pay for.
You are better off staying with a reputable brand such as Sony, Samsung or Sharp.
Here are some user reviews of the Scptre product.
Not real pretty!!!=

No. Olevia is an off-brand. You get what you pay for. Choose Sharp or Panasonic if buying an LCD TV.

Yes you can and most HDTVs now have a single RF input for both ATSC/NTSC and Cable.
Even the digital signal is transferred via an analog carrier.

Funny you ask because I was about to get the same tv for my ps2/dvds. Olevia is made by Syntax which uses a downgraded version of LG screens. LG is a great brand, but to tell you the truth, when I went shopping for the olevia, it did not have as good a picture as some of the higher end models. I would definitely look at a Samsung LCD as they are arguably the best and most reasonably priced tvs. So if you go LCD, go with a higher end brand.

HDMI looks no different from component. I have had multiple salesman from electronics stores (as well as online articles) telling me so. Progressive scan looks great for gaming and dvd players that can handle it.

On the other hand, plasma screens are THE BEST for HD. The shading and color is perfect since each "pixel" is individually lighted instead of LCD just having a few backlights for all the pixels. Plasmas also are not defective towards pixel burnout. CNET has a great article about LCDs vs. Plasmas and definitely will change your mind about which t.v. to get for HD needs. My parents have a Samsung 42" plasma and any ps2 game that is progressive scan compatible looks amazing.

I recommend a 1080i LCD TV.

try looking at a 37" Westinghouse with

because of the higher resolution, especially from a PS3
