I am getting a Samsung LN40A550 which has a built in ATSC tuner. I already have Digital Cable from Shaw Cable and am using the standard digital cable box (not the HD box).

I understand that I would still need to buy the HD cable box to get all the HD channels, but will I be able to get any HD feeds without it?

So I had an old antenna lying around and set it up. Right off the bat I got 5 channels in “air” mode. These were not HD channels (quality was worse then regular cable) just local channels that I already got on my regular cable. When I mess around with the controller it says NO DTV right away. 2 questions: 1) I just have regular cable, how do I get DTV?

I’m not asking for a wiring diagram but if you could describe the sequence of the connections I would be grateful. BTW, I’m dealing w/75ohm coax on both the antennae (Zenith) and the cable connections. I don’t know exactly what inputs are available on the back of the set and/or whether I should connect the antennae to one of those inputs or go through the cable box. If I go directly into the set how will I access channels? Aren’t they somethig like 41.6. Needless to say I’m a newbie & need all the help I can get. Thanks in advance.

So I am buying an HDTV even though I don’t have HD box or anything. No point of buying a CRT TV at this day and age just cause I don’t get HD channels (I might in the future).

So right now I have basic cable with one CRT TV and one HDTV. I plan to use a splitter and connect the basic cable to both my TV. Question is how will the picture turn out on the HDTV? It says it has built in NTSC, ATSC, and QAM tuner. Is there any particular thing I should keep in mind before doing this?
